Despite receiving criticisms for allegedly whitewashing, Marvel's Doctor Strange is set to hit Chinese theatres on November 4, the same day it is opening in the United States.

The film is set to open on what looks to be a crowded month, as Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Ang Lee's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, and Fan Bingbing's I Am Not Madame Bovary are screening next month as well, according to China Film Insider.

Local media reports that the superhero film featuring Benedict Cumberbatch will screen in China "without a single cut" from the country's censor. It will be released in 3D, IMAX 3D, and China Film Giant Screen formats.

Cumberbatch, British actress Tilda Swinton, and director Scott Derrickson will promote Doctor Strange in Shanghai on October 16, Marvel officially announced on its official Weibo account.

Meanwhile, Marvel's Doctor Strange was heavily criticized after it decided to alter "The Ancient One's" ethnicity from Tibetan to Celtic to allegedly avoid offending China, thus casting Swinton to play the role. It seems that the decision has been paying off as Marvel has indeed secured a release date in China, Gizmodo noted.

While Marvel denied such allegations, the studio kept its mouth shut on the removal of Tibet, even after its screenwriter Robert Cargill said on a podcast that project heads agreed to remove the Tibetan character's roots to appease the Chinese audience.

"He originates from Tibet, so if you acknowledge that Tibet is a place and he's Tibetan, you risk alienating one billion people," Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange's director, said. "[You run the risk of] the Chinese government going, 'Hey, you know one of the biggest film-watching countries in the world? We're not going to show your movie because you decided to get political."

Cargill later said in an email to The New York Times that his comment in the podcast does not represent Marvel.
