Andrei ‘Pitbull’ Arlovski Knocks Out Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva

'The Pitbull' is back with a vengeance.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski has redeemed himself from his 2010 loss against Antonio Silva by knocking out the Brazilian in the first round of their Saturday night showdown in Brazil.

The Pitbull quickly earned his vengeance in UFC Fight Night 51 by wobbling Bigfoot with a big right hand followed by two brutal hammer fists in the first round. Silva was finished at exactly 2:59 of the opening frame.

"It was a rematch, it was very important to me and definitely I wanted to knock him out," said Arlovski in a postfight interview. "Nothing personal."

Silva defeated Arlovski in 2010 when both fighters were still under the Strikeforce banner. The victory was a huge upset as Bigfoot is currently ranked as No.4 among UFC heavyweight contenders while Pitbull ranked as No. 14.

The Belarus-born fighter now has a five-match winning streak since his first run with the UFC. Arlovski left the said promotion in 2008 due to contract disputes. He has then fought under Affliction and Ellite Xc where he defeated Ben Rothwell and Roy Nelson. Pitbull lost four straight matches in Affliction and Strikeforce afterwards.

Arlovski resurged by winning four out of five fights in World Series of Fighting, only losing to current UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson.

Dana White welcomed back Arlovski in April. He got a split-decision win against Brendan Schaub in his UFC return last June. The Pitbull is expected to appear in the top rankings after his recent victories over Silva and Schaub.

Bigfoot's last bout was in December where he got a draw with Mark Hunt. He was suspended from the UFC after testing positive for elevated testosterone levels in a postfight drug test. Silva used testosterone replacement therapy for health reasons. However, the treatment was banned by the Nevada Athletic Commission and the Brazilian Commission last February.
