While its Android phones did not perform well in the market, it has appeared that BlackBerry is still fighting to remain in the business. Recently, a leaked benchmark result revealed what might be BlackBerry's next Android phone, and it packs some serious hardware and features.

The Canadian smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry reportedly made a drastic decision when it decided to ditch its homegrown operating system, and embrace, instead, the Android platform for its new smartphone models.

The mystery BlackBerry phone is simply codenamed Mercury. If rumors were true, the company is said to be going back to its roots by integrating a physical keyboard into the phone, a feature that has long been gone when smartphones started to rule the market. Moreover, the BlackBerry Mercury is also expected to run on Android 7.0 Nougat, the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.

A leaked benchmark result from Geekbench hinted that the BlackBerry Mercury will have an octa-core processor. This, then, led many in the tech community to believe that the BlackBerry Mercury will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, according to Express. The phone is expected to have at least 3GB of memory, and a processor clock speed of 2GHz.

Rumors have suggested that the BlackBerry Mercury will have a 4.5-inch display with Full HD resolution.

Futhermore, the phone is expected to have 32GB of internal storage with options to expand it via a memory card slot.

The rumored new handset from Blackberry is also expected to sport an 18-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing selfie shooter.

To those who would like to enjoy the anticipated features of the new BlackBerry Mercury smartphone, rumors have claimed that it will already be available by first quarter of 2017.
