Men’s Volleyball World Championship: Brazil, Russia, France Secure Final Six Spot

 Brazil, Russia and France secured a spot at the final six at the Men's Volleyball World Championship in Poland on Saturday.

Brazil, the reigning champions, defeated Canada in straight sets 25-19, 25-23, 29-27 behind the offensive powers of Lucas Saatkamp and Ricardo Lucarelli Santos which combined a total of 27 points to finish the match in an hour and 31 minutes.

Gavin Schmitt top scored for the losing team with 18 points.

Second seeded Russia also won its game against Germany in three sets 25-17, 25-18, 26-24 to put them in second place with 17 points behind Brazil's 18 in the overall standings of Pool F.

"I have told before that Russia and Brazil will be in the final and I repeat it," German coach Vital Heynen said. "People make mistake and mix politics with sports, they are 14 fantastic players, I have a great respect to those people."

Brazil and Russia will play against each other also on Sunday for the top spot in the standings.

Germany has 12 points in the standings while Canada has 10 points. The two countries will face-off each other Sunday to determine who will move on to the final six.

"We still need to improve some skills," Canada coach Glenn Hoag said. "We need to focus on tomorrow's match against Germany."

Meanwhile, France sealed a spot at the final six after defeating Serbia in four sets 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20.

Antonin Rouzier led the Frenchmen with 22 points while Aleksandar Atanasijevic top scored for Serbia with 19 points.

France is in first place in the overall standings of Pool E followed by host nation Poland, 14, USA, 13 and Iran with 12 points.

Poland will face France, the United States will battle Argentina and Iran will go up against Serbia on Sunday to determine the last two countries of Pool E to join the final six teams in the semis.
