Weeks earlier, he posted photos of himself while working with a chainsaw and trying to chop a tree.

He went on to say on Twitter that people should always expect the unexpected when working with a chainsaw.

This accident calls to mind a similar accident to another golfing athlete, Jack Newton.

Newton was also an Australian professional golfer early in the 70's. He won his first professional tournament in 1972 with the Dutch Open, then would go on to win several others such as: the British Matchplay, the Buick-Goodwrench Open, and the Australian Open Championship.

In 1980, he came up second in the Masters Tournament.

At the height of his career, he was in an accident with the plane he was supposed to board at Sydney Airport.

When he was boarding, he walked into the spinning propeller of the airplane. He sustained several injuries including the loss of his arm, his eye, and severe abdominal injuries.

Norman thankfully got off with only minor injuries to his hand. As said in his tweet, "I was one lucky man today. Damaged, but not down & out. Still have left hand"
