A new direct flight is planned to bring fresh milk from Chinese-owned dairy company in Tasmania to China.

The country is a top player in global milk trade as international milk sale to China increased 46 times since 2010. The flight is likely to start operating early next year to deliver milk to Ningbo in eastern China.

Lu Xiangfeng bought 191 years old Van Diemen's Land Co.  in March this year for $214 million. This is the largest dairy operation in Australia.

The estate comes with 25 dairy farms, and part of its produce will be flown to China. The milk supply will depart from Hobart in Tasmania.

China represents a huge demand for milk. A large portion of this demand is from the European Union.

Since 2010, the volume of milk shipments to China has already registered 126 percent growth rate every year. Lu's firm Moon Lake Investments Pty alone has already sold $2.2 million worth of milk from VDL Farms. Sean Shwe, managing director of Moon Lake, said it is an exciting opportunity for all the parties involved.

It is believed that VDL Farm will ship nearly 10million liter milk for processing. The milk will then be sold under the brand name of VAN Milk. Initially, it will be available in 600 ml and 1 liter cartons.

The company is currently conducted negotiations with airports and airlines for weekly round trip on the Hobart-Ningbo circuit.

The flight frequency may later be increased to two to three times a week. Moon Lake also plans to add Beijing to its list of destinations as well.
