Popular messaging application WhatsApp has reportedly activated its video calling feature for some Android users. WhatsApp's video calling feature has allegeldly been made available to some users of the beta builds of the app who were able to access the feature through an updated interface.

The new WhatsApp video calling feature can be used by supported devices by simply making a regular phone call.

Once the call is initiated, a new dialog box will pop up asking the user about the type of call they are going to use: the standard voice call or the new video call feature.

Additionally, the call log screen will also display which calls were made through video calling by adding a new camera icon next to it instead of the usual telephone icon.

Several users have tried to use the new WhatsApp video calling feature. However, it appears that users who do not have the video call support cannot receive video calls from those who have it.

According to Tech Crunch, when users try to do this, WhatsApp uses the default voice call feature.

Android is not the first platform where WhatsApp video calling feature was activated. Last week, WhatsApp beta users on the Windows Phone platform reported that the video calling feature was activated on their operating system. The latter's video calling feature does not require the WhatsApp app to be activated, which means that the company made the changes on their server rather than rolling out an update to activate it.
