Disney World and Epcot Center's World Showcase announced recently that a new "Frozen" ride based on the movie will be replacing the Maelstrom ride located in the Norway Pavilion.

The Maelstrom ride debuted in the theme park in 1988 and, features a dark boat ride, musty smell, cheesy Viking imagery and trolls.

Although Maelstrom has been a favorite amongst theme park enthusiasts, the magnitude of the popularity of "Frozen" has prompted the company to make the changes.

According to Thomas Staggs, the chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, the new "Frozen" ride will be staged in the fictional kingdom of Arendelle.

"From the moment we screened the film several months before its release, we were inspired by the possibility of bringing this great story to life for our guests," Staggs shared.

The said ride will be including music and highlights from the movie which earned over $1.3 billion in theaters worldwide. It will also have a special area where Anna and Elsa can greet the guests.

Currently, Disney employees in Anna and Elsa costumes are already going around the park to greet guests.

The two characters have been two of the most approached figures in the park. Even singer Gwen Stefani, a fan of the animated flick, had a photo taken with Anna and Elsa during her park visit in November 2013.

The holiday season also promises more "Frozen" magic in Disney World. The Cinderella Palace will be transformed every night "into an ice palace" through Queen Elsa's magical powers and, a play area with real snow will also be constructed.

The said Christmas treat will begin in early November of this year.

"Frozen" is the highest grossing animated movie of all time and, one of Disney's top five cartoon franchises ever, so expect the company to continue playing up the flick's popularity for at least another five years.
