Wedding Photo Found At Ground Zero Returned to Owner 13 Years After 9/11 Attacks

A wedding photograph found amongst the rubble of the World Trade Center following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks has finally, 13 years later, made it into the hands of its rightful owner, reports state.

Elizabeth Stringer Keefe's annual 9/11 ritual of searching for the owners of the photo finally came to an end after she located the proprietor and found out that all six of the individuals pictured in the image are alive and well.

According to reports, Fred Mahe had tacked the photo to his cubicle wall on the 77th floor of the World Trade Center's now-demolished Tower II.

After seeing an article about Keefe's quest, Mahe sent her a LinkedIn message describing where the photo was located before he lost it. After that, the two phoned each other to set up a meeting.

Ecstatic about the original owner coming forward, Keefe Tweeted early Sunday that she was planning on getting together with Mahe in New York City on Monday. The meeting would be the successful conclusion to her epic search.

Some may call it a miracle while others may deem it irrelevant, but for the Lesley University assistant professor, it was magical to find something so joyful amidst the ruins of Ground Zero.

"It's a beautiful, joyful moment captured in time and it was such a contrast to what I saw at Ground Zero, which was still burning when I was there," she stated.

The photo came into Keefe's possession on October 2001 when she was visiting with a friend in New York who found it near the street blocks of Ground Zero.

According to her, her friend handed the photo to her and asked her to "do something meaningful with it."

And so she did. After several years of keeping it tucked in her favorite book - Ernest Hemingway's 'A Moveable Feast' - and sharing it over the Internet, the photograph will finally be home.
