Software development company Futuremark recently announced that it is launching a new service that will help users to determine whether their system is capable of running Virtual Reality contents. The new service, dubbed as VRMark, is designed specifically to test computer systems for virtual reality capability.

Virtual reality companies like Oculus and Valve have already released their won compatibility and benchmarking testers. On the other hand, Futuremark is convinced that the VRMark benchmarking tool offers a more comprehensive test compared to those provided by Oculus and Valve.

According to Engadget, VRMark checks the computer system's hardware specifications and compares it to the minimum and recommended specification requirements released by Vive and Rift. Additionally, VRMark also runs the computer system into one of two live virtual reality demos to make sure that the system can stay above, or at least maintain, the optimum frame rate.

VRMark has a test called 'orange room' which serves as the basic testing tool for most users who want to test their system's virtual reality capacity. For more advanced systems and enthusiasts, VRMark has an advanced testing tool called 'blue room' which simulates the highest virtual reality experiences available today.

For the orange test, a score of 5000 means that the system meets the minimum requirements needed for a virtual reality computer. Futuremark said that systems that do not meet the threshold may still have the potential to run a virtual reality content. However, the experience could be sub-par and nauseating.
