Chief of China's Air Force said it will speed up development of the J-20 fighter jet, an apparent bid to dismiss speculations that the aircraft's production was running behind schedule.

According to the South China Morning Post, spectators expressed disappointment over the jet's development following a brief public debut at the Airshow China in Zhuhai on Tuesday. The pilots did not reportedly open the weapon bay doors like what they did during a rehearsal several days prior to the launch.

"It's a very good thing that our J-20 made an appearance here. We're speeding up development," General Ma Xiaotian told Shenzhen Satellite Television during the short fly-past said.

He also added that the J-20 fighter jets are not open for exports, saying "We are not considering putting [the J-20] on the global market."

According to a military insider, Ma's remarks could be a way to put pressure on the Chengdu Aerospace Corporation, J-20 jets' manufacturer, to deliver sooner, the SCMP noted.

Meanwhile, talking about Ma's satisfaction on the demonstration flight at the Airshow, he said: "Of course I'm satisfied. "

The beefy details of the J-20 fighter jets were not disclosed. To everyone else, the aircraft appeared to be designed to equal the stealth capacities of fifth-generation fighter aircrafts including the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor and Russia's Sukhoi PAK FA, according to the Sputnik News.

"In my opinion, the machine is based on the Russian MiG 1.44," Dmitry Drozdenko, a deputy editor of Arsenal of the Fatherland, a Russian military magazine, told Sputnik. "Although it hasn't been announced officially, the J-20 uses our AL-31F engine, developed by Salut, which the Chinese bought for half a billion dollars."

Other than the J-20, China is also developing the Shenyang J-31, another fifth generation jet fighter, to attract interested overseas buyers.
