Former NBA Player Josh Smith to Join Sichuan Blue Whales of the Chinese Basketball Association

The Chinese Basketball Association's defending champion Sichuan Blue Whales has reportedly agreed terms to hire the services of the 2005 NBA Slam Dunk king Josh Smith to play for the team in the ongoing 22nd season of the biggest professional league of China.

According to the Bleacher Report, the veteran pro basketball reporter David Pick told that the Wenjiang District, Chengdu-based Chinese basketball club and the 30-year-old Smith were believed to have reached an agreement of a three-month, $1.5 million "plus" deal to play for the outfit in China.

The native of College Park, Georgia, last played for the Houston Rockets in the 2015-2016 season of the NBA. Smith played a total of 23 official games with the James Harden-led team while averaging 6.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 18.3 minutes of playing time per contest during the league's regular season.

Smith was the 2004 NBA Draft 17th overall pick selected by the Atlanta Hawks, where he played for the duration of nine seasons. The 6-foot-9-inches tall veteran forward had posted impressive stats during his stint with the Philips Arena-homed basketball team averaging 15.41 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 blocked shots per contest in the 676 games that he played for the Hawks.

He opted to forgo college and entered the NBA straight out of high school. Smith attended John McEachern High in his first year in high school before transferring to Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, on his senior year.

According to ESPN, Smith also played for the Detroit Pistons from 2013 to 2015. The 2010 NBA All-Defensive Second Team member also had a short stint with the Los Angeles Clippers during the last season.

Smith will surely be an instant starter in the Blue Whales lineup, which currently owns a 2-2 win-loss record. The Chinese team is presently under the watch of head coach XueZeng Yang.
