In time for the upcoming Holiday season, Starbucks has launched 13 new red holiday cup designs.

The 13 cups were designed by Starbucks customers from six countries, who were asked to share their unique cup art on Instagram in December last year. The new cups will feature candy canes, reindeer, Christmas lights, ornaments, trees and snowflakes against a red background.

Starbucks 2015 Instagram campaign encouraged people to share their artistic works. After eight days of the campaign, the popular coffee chain received 1200 designs from 13 countries. The 13 chosen cups are now Starbucks' second seasonal cups of 2016. These holiday cups will be available in all 25,000 Starbucks locations around the world, according to USA Today.

The invited artists came from different walks of life including a hairstylist near Philadelphia, an aspiring artist in New York, and a college student studying in Germany. The company said that the 13 designs express the shared spirit of the season.

In celebration of the new holiday cups, Starbucks is offering them on a buy one and get one free basis from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. until Nov. 14.

In 2015, Starbucks received angry comments when the company launched minimalist red cups. People complained that the cups were not "Christmas-y" enough and outraged others said that it signals a war on Christmas. Commentaries about the controversial cup made rounds on social media. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz mentioned the previous controversy during the unveiling of the new holiday cups of 2016 at an event in New York City.

“Should we just go back to last year and come out with a great red cup... and perhaps start another firestorm? We didn't think that was such a good idea,” Schultz said.

In the week or so leading up to the election, Starbucks launched a green cup that featured an illustration displaying the faces of over 100 people, drawn with a single continuous line. The coffee chain called the green cup a symbol of unity, ABC7NY reported.
