The incident happened at the River Garden Villa compound in Shunyi. Gartner had got into an argument with a local after he forced his Mercedes Benz into a parking space while a Chinese driver was reversing his car into towards the same position.

"I am in China one year already. The first thing I learned is that all you Chinese are bastards," Gartner was quoted saying by the Global Times.

Upon hearing the derogatory remarks, some passer by gathered to confront him. However, he reportedly pepper sprayed both the crowd and the driver. The driver will allegedly take up the matters in accordance with the law.

Bloggers took to twitter to comment on his actions.  "Experts should behave themselves and never put on airs even if they are richer or superior," said one blogger.

According to the Irish Times, a statement issued by Daimler explained that he was acting on his own behalf and that his actions do not reflect in any way those of the company.

"We deeply regret this personal argument," read the statement. "The content of this argument does not represent at all the views of the company."

The statement also added that they value their Chinese clientele and that they will look into the whole scandal. The company also noted that Gartner would face up to his actions.

"At Daimler, we always value equality and respect our corporate culture. The same applies to China."
