The Los Angeles Police Department has initiated an internal investigation after Daniele Watts, known for her supporting role in the movie, "Django Unchained", accused the policemen of violating her rights.

The investigation comes on the heels of the recent arrest of Watts who was handcuffed and detained by LAPD police officers when they responded to a report that a couple was performing "lewd acts inside an open  silver Mercedes car" Thursday afternoon.

Watts filed the complaint last week after she posted a picture of herself crying beside a police officer with her hands behind her back on Facebook.

The LAPD released a statement defending the force, claiming that they received a complaint from a passerby who said that a couple was "indecently exposed" in an open silver Mercedes car.

Police officers and sergeants responded to the report and proceeded to the Ventura Boulevard Block 11900 in Studio City where they located the couple that matched the description of the suspects.

LAPD officers detained Watts, who is black, and her boyfriend, Los Angeles chef James Lucas, who is white, but both were later released after police said no crime was committed by the couple.

Lucas wrote on his Facebook last Friday that the police accosted them "after showing our affection publicly." He said Watts was mistaken for a prostitute by the police because of their clothes and their differing skin colors.

A news outlet last Monday posted an audio clip from the police purportedly from the incident where Watts was heard arguing with the police and refusing  to hand over her ID when she was asked for it.

In the audio the actress was heard ranting and accusing the officers of racism.

"Do you know how many times I've been called, the cops have been called just for being black, because we're black against white? I'm just being really honest."

The police officer responded, "Who brought up the race card? Why?"

The three minute audio centered on the cop requesting for her ID and at one point, Watts shouted and told him that she has a publicist and that she is an actor.

Watts wrote on her Facebook that two cops from the Studio City police department handcuffed and detained her when she was just showing affection and was fully clothed in a public place.
