Initial investigations were made by Thai police at around 6:30 in the morning in which it was determined that the two were killed between 4 and 5 at dawn after joining a well-known all-night party at the famous tourist destination.

The pair, who authorities believed were not a couple, were identified Monday evening as 24-year-old David Miller from Jersey and 23-year-old Hannah Witheridge of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Police Colonel Songsak believes that the third British tourist who arrived in the country at the same time as the murder victims could be a huge help in the investigation.

According to him, the unnamed man is a friend of the man found dead along the beach and that his name has been passed around to gather information on his whereabouts.

Miller's 'friend' was reported to have left the island a few hours prior to the murder though he was not identified as a suspect in the incident.

Investigators consider this a rape and double murder case as Witheridge, who had a huge wound on her face, showed indications of being sexually assaulted.

A pair of shorts, a skirt, and a shirt were found near her body while Miller was located four meters away with a wound to the back of his head caused by a blunt force.

Initial investigations revealed that a bloodied hoe found near the victims' remains could be the murder weapon.

The area where they were found is less than 100 meters away from their respective cottages at the 'Ocean View' resort.
