Chinese Authorities Search for Missing Vice Mayor of Luoyang

Law enforcement officers in central China are currently carrying at a search for a vice mayor in a city in Henan Province who has reportedly been missing for more than 45 days after he disappeared in July, the Xinhua news agency reported on Monday.

Guo Yipin, the 52-year-old elected vice mayor for the city of Luoyang was reported missing in late July and authorities have since been carrying out an ongoing investigation in an attempt to pinpoint his whereabouts. Most recently, investigators posted an online announcement for his search on Sunday.

According to the announcement, police are looking into the possible whereabouts of the Luoyang City vice mayor and two other individuals, one of who has been identified to be a real estate developer.

Police said that they are considering searching houses, yards, and unused workshops in hopes of uncovering clues which can provide information regarding the whereabouts of the three missing individuals as well as the events leading up to their disappearances.

In February this year, Guo was elected as vice mayor and since then was charged with handling work safety, environmental protection, coal mining, and transportation in Luoyang City.

He was also known for his campaign against having illegal tricycles in the city and throughout his run for mayor was reported to have met up with leading officials at least once a day to discuss this particular campaign.

According to reports, all meetings which the vice mayor presided over prior to his disappearance have since ceased as officials continue looking for the missing man.

The last time Guo was seen was in late July while he was carrying out an inspection in order to ensure that flood safety regulations were being followed in the city.
