The Memphis Grizzlies could trade Marc Gasol and Vince Carter to the Toronto Raptors for Jonas Valanciunas and Terrence Ross, according to the latest trade rumors.

Toronto is having a great season so far as they are currently second in East with a 16-7 record with only the defending champions Cleveland Cavaliers having a better record. With the way they are playing, the team seems to be headed to another Eastern Conference Finals matchup with the Cavs in the coming postseason.

The Raptors has lost to the Cavs in all their three meetings so far this season which indicates that there is a need for Toronto to re-tool or else have the same runner-up finish that they had last season.

Rumors are out that the Raptors are looking to reinforce their roster for another possible clash with the Cavs and that they will try to do it via the trade market. The most recent speculations suggest that Toronto could offer Valanciunas, Ross, and a future second-round draft pick to Memphis for Gasol and Carter, according to HNGN.

A Gasol-Valanciunas swap was already rumored before last season's trade deadline but it never came to fruition. This led to recent speculations that the two teams might re-visit the potential deal once again.

Gasol is certainly a significant upgrade for the Raptors in the center spot as the team could form their own Big Three with DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry. The deal could also be a chance for Carter to finish his career where he started it.

Carter, an 18-year veteran and eight-time NBA All-Star, played his first seven seasons in the league in Toronto where he won the Rookie of the Year award in 1999.

Meanwhile, Valanciunas and Ross can be two reliable role players for the Grizzlies, who may be starting a complete rebuild as their roster is currently aging. The addition of the future pick just makes the deal sweeter for Memphis.

The deal is legal under NBA regulations as confirmed by the ESPN NBA Trade Machine, which means it could happen if the two teams would be willing to discuss the hypothetical trade.
