Scientists Decide to build Tower to Monitor Drought in Amazon

The famous Amazon Rainforest is currently facing drought.

Due to this, scientists who are monitoring the effects of climate change are alarmed and they decided to build a giant tower in the middle of the forest in order to closely watch and monitor the Amazon.

The scientists have concluded that the drought should prompt more scientists to monitor the growing effects of the said problem.

The tower was called the "Amazon Tall Tower Observatory" and is around 325 meters tall. It is now being constructed 160 kilometers away from the Amazonian city of Manau.

The height, scientists say, will be advantageous for them because they will be able to gather data regarding greenhouse gases, aerosol particles, and any element further affecting the worsening of climate change.

Also, the weather will be studied from the tower in order to better understand the sources of the greenhouse gases

According to a project coordinator, Jurgen Kesselmeier, said that the measurement point will be ideal to investigate the forest region regarding the chemistry and physics of the atmosphere. There will be no direct human influence so the monitoring will show better results.

Others say that the drought is due to the lack of rain in the Amazon region, however, more people believe that the "flying rivers" really have an effect on the said problem. The "flying rivers" are the vapor clouds normally bringing rain to the center of south Brazil.

The Amazons is dubbed as the giant water pump in the region and the drought is defying its purpose.

Aside from global warming and the effects of climate change, deforestation is also one main concern. The rates of deforestation in Brazil have dramatically increased by 29 percent as reported last year.

Leading climate scientist Antonio Nobre explained that destroying the Amazon is like shooting yourself in the foot. He noted that the Amazon is the giant irrigation of the region, thus people around it should protect it rather than destroy it.

Nobre already warned that the region will be experiencing a catastrophe last 2009. Sao Paulo and Brazil's center are now suffering the worst drought they have ever experienced
