The Los Angeles Lakers could reportedly pursue New Orleans Pelicans center Anthony Davis before this season's trade deadline.

Los Angeles had an unexpected start to the season, winning 10 of their first 20 games to stay at the .500 mark and land in the top eight of the Western Conference standings. However, the team lost their next eight games after that, dropping to 11th place at the moment.

With their recent struggles, rumors have emerged that general manager Mitch Kupchak could be looking to re-tool their roster in midseason and one of the top names being linked to the Lakers is the Pelicans' franchise player Davis.

Davis is arguably playing the best season of his career as he averages 30.5 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.8 blocks, and 1.7 steals in 38.3 minutes per game in 24 games so far this season.

Still, the Pelicans are nowhere near in playoff contention with the team currently third from the last place in the West with an 8-18 slate as the season reaches its quarter mark.

There are speculations that the three-time NBA All-Star could request a trade soon if he feels that his career is not going anywhere as long as he is in New Orleans.

ESPN's Joe Kaiser noted that it might be time for the Pelicans to trade Davis while his value is still at an all-time high. New Orleans evidently needs a dramatic change to get out of their current rut and Davis seems to be not the answer for the squad.

Kaiser said that "it will take real guts" for the Pelicans to trade Davis at this point, but even if New Orleans qualifies to the postseason, their main man could be burnt out already with the heavy load he has been carrying all these time.

He suggested that the Pelicans could get two top-15 NBA players for Davis right now and the team should consider doing that.

Meanwhile, HNGN that the Lakers are interested in trading for Davis this season, although it is not clear which players Los Angeles can offer that can persuade New Orleans to part ways with their prized center.
