Hyundai recently announced that the next generation of Hyundai Tucson five-seater crossover will receive a major boost on its fuel cell, which will essentially increase the Tucson's range; however, it will only benefit hydrogen-powered Tucsons.

The current generation of Hyundai Tucson has a range of 265 miles. The Environmental Protection Agency gave it a rating equivalent to 50 miles per gallon combined. These new generation Tucson will have in increased range of up to 348 miles per tank, which represents a 30 percent improvement compared with the current model, according to CNet.

The new generation of Hyundai Tucson that will sport an upgraded hydrogen fuel cell will roll out in January of 2018. According to FirstPost, Ahn Buyng-ki, Hyundai Director of Eco-Vehicle Development, said that the launch of the new generation of Hyundai Tucson will be around the same time as the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, which is slated to be held in Japan, Hyundai's home country.

With this improvement, Hyundai is inching closer to its competitors from Toyota and Honda. The current generation of Toyota Mirai has a range of 312 miles, while the Honda Clarity even longer at 366 miles.

The current generation of Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell is available for only $499 per month on a three-year lease. However, this deal is exclusively available only in California.

Hyundai is yet to confirm whether consumers can opt to fully purchase the new models once they roll out, but there are rumors claiming that the company will most probably keep its current lease-only program.
