The event will be held at San Francisco and will start at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

Microsoft executives Terry Myerson and Joe Belfiore will address the future Windows and the enterprise market.

Microsoft will bring back the redesigned Start menu on its next version of Windows, according to a report in The Verge, a website covering technology and science. It will also let users run Modern/Metro apps within a window on the desktop.

The Verge also reported Microsoft will get rid of Windows 8's "Charms," a menu that slides in from the side.

An Update button, Cortana integration, a Notification Center showing alerts from apps or from the system, and a feature called Virtual Desktops will all be present on the next Windows version.

The Virtual Desktop will allow users to compose different screen views and can be used to pull apps together.

Windows 9 is also referred to as Threshold and could be the interim release before the release of the full Windows 9 version later.

The September 30 event is said to be the Windows Technical Preview after leaked screenshots appeared last week.

All the features in the Windows Technical Preview will be available in spring 2015.
