BMW is expecting that the 530e iPerformance could somehow raise the bar when it comes to fuel efficiency. BMW touted that the car's plug-in-hybrid technology coupled with the smaller four-cylinder engine is enough to take on some of its closest competitors. BMW predicts that the car's 9.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack is enough to power the car for up to 15 miles before the gas engine kicks into power.
On the other hand, the BMW M550i xDrive is expected to pick up a price tag of $73,095. The M550i xDrive packs a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which BMW claims can output 456 horsepower delivered on all four wheels. All these power help the M550i xDrive to accelerate from zero to 60mph in just 3.9 seconds.
In terms of technology features, the 2018 BMW 5 Series has quite an interesting package. According to Edmunds, some models include lane change assist, active cruise control with speed limit assist, and an optional remote parking feature.
Both the 2018 530e iPerformance and the 2018 M550i xDrive are expected to hit showrooms this spring.
