Gwen Stefani has been handed a copyright lawsuit after being accused of stealing her dance-pop song "Spark The Fire," which came out in 2014 as one of her singles.

The song, which she supposedly wrote in collaboration with producer-rapper Pharell Williams and has melodic similarities to her old hits "Hollaback Girl" and "Baby Don't Lie," allegedly belongs to a singer and hairstylist named Richard Morrill's group, L.A.P.D.

As for how Stefani reportedly chanced upon the song, Morrill claimed he played his group's song "Who's Got My Lighter?" for her while coloring her hair way back in 1998 and she appeared to enjoy it so he gave her a copy of it. Ten years later in 2008, his band finally released the song – six years before Stefani’s version came out.

In the legal documents filed by Morrill at the Colorado district court, he stated, “The rhythm, melody, and background music during the chorus of ‘Spark the Fire’ is almost identical to the chorus of ‘Who’s Got My Lighter.’ They are sung in the same key.”

Even the lyrics are pretty similar. The lyrics in Stefani’s song are, “Let’s spark the fire. Who’s got the lighter?” while Morrill’s lyrics are, “Who’s got my lighter? Who got the fire?

Now the Littleton, Colorado-based stylist is seeking a part of the estimated $25 million that the pop singer has made off the song and has included Pharrell and Interscope Records in his suit.

Do you think Morrill is telling the truth or is he just another one of those fans who's simply out for some of Gwen's money?
