Argentine football superstar Carlos Tevez has arrived in the land of China and has been given a hero's welcome at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Thursday morning.

The 32-year-old Tevez transferred to the Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua after the former West Ham, Manchester United and Manchester City striker reportedly accepted a prodigious deal that was believed to have an estimated £615,000 (US$ 753,000) per week.

According to a published report of the Daily Mail, chants of 'Carlos, Carlos' could be heard as the highest-paid professional football player in the world arrived in the terminal, though Tevez did not stop to speak to media as thousands of fans chased him, hoping for a glimpse of their new signing.

Tevez will be working under the watch of former Chelsea and Tottenham midfielder Gustavo Poyet and will join the likes of Demba Ba and Obafemi Martins in the squad as the new season of the CSL commence on March.

According to Sky Sports, the Greenland Group-owned CSL outfit finished fourth in the league last season. Shenhua was 16 points behind the reigning champions Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao.

The two-time Argentina's Player of the Year winner is the latest high profiled international football star to head for the riches of the highest tier of professional football in China, leaving his boyhood club Boca Juniors. Tevez will be joining the likes of Oscar, Hulk, Alex Witsel, Alex Teixeira, Ramires, and Jackson Martinez.

Tevez began his football career with the Boca Juniors, claiming the Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup in the year 2003 before moving to the Brazilian club of the Corinthians where he won the Brasileiro.

He moved to Stratford and joined the West Ham United in 2006, helping the English club remain in the Premier League in his only season with the team.

Tevez also played for the Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus before returning back to Boca Juniors in 2015, where he netted 25 goals in 56 matches in his second stint at the La Boca-based football club.
