The National Basketball Association's (NBA) Minnesota Timberwolves will be opening their training camp for the upcoming 2014-2015 season with scrimmages and a slam dunk contest between Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine.

The event will mirror the "Midnight Madness" events that are used to start upcoming collegiate basketball seasons. In the event, there will be scrimmages, a few contests, and gimmicks like skits featuring coaches and players as well.

The event, called "Dunks After Dark," will be held late on a Monday night, September 29, after the team handles their media-day activities in the afternoon.

The event is done in line with the collegiate and youthful vibe the new Timberwolves are adopting. Their roster has guard Wiggins, forward Anthony Bennett, forward Thaddeus Young, and guard Zach LaVine.

Three of the four young players came from the three-team trade that sent Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wiggins and Bennett from the Cavaliers, both number one draft picks, and Young from the Philadelphia 76ers helped to seal the deal to form the Cavaliers' new big three in Lebron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love.

Wiggins was the number one overall draft pick for the 2014 NBA draft, while LaVine caught the attention of the NBA with his athleticism and 46-inch vertical.

The rookies were voted by their peers as the best athletes among the team to put on a show during the Timberwolves event.

During a preseason workout, Glenn Robinson III challenged LaVine to an impromptu slam dunk contest by sending a video of his dunk. LaVine responded and subsequently challenged Wiggins.

While Robinson won't be there, LaVine and Wiggins will have a chance to duke it out in a real slam dunk competition.
