According to the official website of the prestigious Grand Slam event, the winning tennis pair needed an hour and 52 minutes to complete the semifinal battle and secured their ticket for the championship round. Peng and Hlavackova will be facing the second-top seeded pair of American Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Sarafova of the Czech Republic.

Mattek-Sands and Sarafova disposed the unseeded Japanese pair of Eri Hozumi and Miyu Kato in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 that lasted for over two hours of solid tennis action. The Chinese-Czech combo battled their way to the semifinal round of the women's doubles after ousting the third-seeded pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina with a hard-earned 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) victory on Tuesday.

The winning tandem scored three aces during the match and committed just 13 unforced errors compared to the opposing pair's 29. Peng and Hlavackova, who are the tournament's 12th seeds garnered total points won of 89 while Makarova and Vesnina just had 79.

According to the WTA's official website, the pair is playing their sixth tournament together since the year 2014 and have won three titles, including the Shenzhen Open recently. The Melbourne-based tennis event was the duo's first major tournament as a team.

Peng is the only Chinese player left competing in the professional rank of the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year.  World No. 23 Zhang Shuai, China's highest ranked female tennis player, was earlier eliminated in the second round. Duan Yingying also suffered the same fortune as she failed to advance further, losing to the former top-ranked Venus Williams of the United States in the Round of 32.
