Earth wasn’t hellish during its early days, researchers said

A new study show that 500 million years after the Earth's formation, the Earth doesn't look like Hellish place but rather similar to what humans see now.

This is different from previous researches that say that Earth's was in a hellish state, Hadean period, during its first formation, researchers said.

Calvin Miller from Vanderbilt University said that the only concrete evidence of the Hadean period researchers have comes from zircon crystals that hasn't been compared to zircon from the modern era.

Therefore, researchers analyzed the age, elemental and isotopic composition of 1,000 zircon crystals which researchers found out that were distinctive from other crystals that can be found in other places in Earth.

However, they found out that the zircons were formed in magmas that were different from the crystals that were formed in the Hadean period.

Researchers found out that Icelandic zircons grew from hotter magmas than the Hadean period zircons.

Miller and his colleague conclusions were counterintuitive and grew from magmas that were formed in modern zones.

They are cooler and wetter than those being produced today, they added.

Previous researchers believed that during the Hadean period Earth was hostile for life and was bombarded by asteroids that remelt.

Earth's surface is covered by a giant magma ocean, they added.

However, researchers said that this perception change about 30 years ago when they discovered zircon crystals, that revealed that Hadean Earth was not hellish as previous researchers believed.

They believe that during some point they crust cooled enough to create surface water that possibly formed the oceans.

The study came from Vanderbilt University that was published in Earth and Planetary Science Letters.
