Chinese Super League powerhouse Shanghai SIPG FC crushed A-League runners-up Western Sydney Wanderers, 5-1, at the Shanghai Stadium on Tuesday to register a second consecutive win in the group stage of the 2017 AFC Champions League.

Shanghai imports Hulk, Oscar, and Elkeson scored a goal each to lead head coach André Villas-Boas' side during the match while local players Shi Ke and Wu Lei also contributed one a piece en route to the five-goal masterpiece.

The win put the Red Eagles on top of Group F as co-leaders with Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds, who won their own second round group stage fixture, 5-2, over South Korea's FC Seoul.

"The team played very well today," Villas-Boas told reporters after the match, via the Shanghai Daily. "We created a lot of scoring opportunities, which boosted our confidence to go forward. Our next two matches are against Urawa, which would be crucial to the group (ranking) - we hope to keep up the performance."

Less than two minutes have passed in the game when Brazilian striker Hulk scored the opening goal, which was quickly doubled by compatriot and former Chelsea star Oscar in the 17th minute. Wanderers midfielder Mitch Nichols then put his side on the board in the 20th, making it a 2-1 count to keep the game within reach.

However, another wave of attack from SIPG made it a 4-1 lead as Shi and Brazilian forward Elkeson scored successive goals in the 25th and 27th minutes, breaking the game wide open and out of reach by the Wanderers.

SIPG star Wu Lei sealed the win with a close-range shot in the 75th minute, giving the Red Eagles another victory in Asia's premier club continental competitions.

Wanderers' manager Tony Popovic was convinced about SIPG's improvement with the addition of Hulk and Oscar, saying that "They were dangerous and made the difference in the first half. We had 56 percent possession in the first half, which is not bad in an away game but SIPG's class showed."

ESPN noted that SIPG is one of the favorites to win the Asian title this season along with their fellow Chinese Super League team Guangzhou Evergrande.
