The cases of violence with players from the National Football League (NFL) seem to keep increasing, as Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer recently hit his wife in two separate occasions.

The first time it happened was last July.

Police said Dwyer initially tried to kiss and undress his wife, who refused his advances. Dwyer headbutted his wife in the face, breaking her nose in the process.

Neighbors heard the ensuing argument and proceeded to call the cops.

They visited the household, but Dwyer hid in the bathroom with his wife saying that she was not assaulted. Police later found out that it was because Dwyer threatened to kill himself if she told anything to the police.

The very next day, Dwyer punched his wife in the left side of the face. He also threw a shoe at his 17-month year old son.

The wife left the state soon after the incidents.

The police only found out about the altercations when Dwyer's wife came forward after her husband threatened to kill himself via a text message.

Dwyer was taken into custody at the Cardinals' practice facility and headquarters in Tempe. He has since been deactivated from all team activities, similar to the Minnesota Vikings' Adrian Peterson's situation.

He spent one night in jail and made a court appearance. Then, he was released on bond for US $25,000.

A person knowledgeable with the situation said that Dwyer was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list. He added that Dwyer was going through mental evaluation due to his frequent mentions of suicide.

This is the fourth violence case that an NFL player has had this season after Ray Rice, Peterson, and Greg Hardy.

The NFL said that they will be reviewing Dwyer's case under the personal-conduct policy.
