Sears recently added a new service where shoppers can make in-store returns and exchanges, but while inside their cars.

The new service can be availed of by members of Sears' Loyalty Club and Shop Your Way.

Whenever a member drives to the store to make a return or exchange their products, a store associate will walk over to their car to replace or take the item back.

In February, the company launched a service called "In-Vehicle Pickup" which is a part of their Shop Your Way app. It allows its customers to pick up their purchased items without stepping out of the car.

The customer will have to use the app to arrange a car-side service and to inform the store that he or she has arrived at the store.

The new service is an expansion of the In-Vehicle Pickup, which is reportedly a move in response to the company's declining shares as reported earlier this week, and news that the company needed to loan US$400 million from its CEO, Eddie Lampert.

During a press release, Sears Holdings senior vice president Leena Munjal, said that the service aims to provide a more convenient and enjoyable store experience for the customer.

She added that with the new service, customers will not have to fuss about returning and exchanging an item, but can focus more on shopping and buying necessary items.

When asked about the counter-productivity of the service, since customers will no longer be able to check out other items inside the store for a potential purchase, Sears spokesman Brian Hanover said that convenience is their top priority.

"We want our customers to shop whenever and however they choose," Hanover said.

In addition, Hanover said that in the customer satisfaction surveys they have conducted, customers gave a high rating to the In-Vehicle Pickup service, among all other services the company has launched.
