Brazil jumped to a fast start as they served hard and blocked Poland to take the first set 25-18 but the wise setter substitution of coach Stephane Antigua quickly turned it around for Poland to tie the match at one apiece.

Setter Pawell Zagummy, who replaced Fabian Drzyzga in the second set, continued on to the third set for Poland and had setup plays for Mateusz Mika who delivered deadly spikes over Brazilian blockers that thwarted Brazil's dream of a fourth consecutive title and a second Gold medal for Poland 18-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.

Mika led the Polish nationals with 22 points followed Mariusz Wlazly with 14 and team captain Michal Winiarski with 13 points.

Ricardo Lucarelli Santos and Wallace De Souza both scored 18 points to top the Brazilian side.

Wlazly was hailed Most Valuable Player of the tournament as well as Best Opposite Spiker. Lucarelli Santos and Murilo Endres were named Best Outside Spikers.

Poland won all of their matches in the tournament while Brazil lost only two matches and both were from the host nation.

In the match for third place, Germany startled France as setter Lukas Kampa maximized his teammate's potentials to shut out the Frenchmen 25-21, 26-24, 25-23.

"We are extremely happy, even some tears dropped, everybody saw how we enjoyed this victory," said Germany captain Jochen Schops.

György Grozer led the Germans with 19 points followed by Denys Kaliberda with 13 points while Antonin Rouzier and Earvin Ngapeth combined 23 points for the losing team.

Kampa was named Best Setter of the tournament while co-player Marcus Bohme was hailed Best Middle Blocker.
