About 32 structures have been destroyed as Northern California's 'King Fire' engulfed trees and houses alike after expanding to a staggering 82,000 acres on Sunday.

Latest reports stated that up until Sunday, only 10 percent of the historic wildfire was contained after it sparked on Sep. 13 in Sacramento, California.

According to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesperson Tom Piranio, 10 homes and 22 other buildings in White Meadows near Pollock Pines were scorched by the Califonia 'King Fire' as per recent figures from the agency.

The California 'King Fire' began along the South Fork of the American River Canyon and continued to Tahoe National Forest, where it threatened the Blodgett Research Forest with a size of 4,270 acres.

Over the weekend, the wildfire grew about 74 acres more and spewed massive smoke across California early on Sunday, forcing Ironman organizers to announce a last-minute cancellation of two of its events near Lake Tahoe where 3,000 athletes from all over the world were expected to attend.

The wild blaze had posed to devour into a fiery inferno some 21,000 structures more and forced about 3,000 residents to flee their homes.

Over 5,000 firefighters, who joined together to put out the devastating wildfire raging across El Dorado County for a week, took advantage of the higher humidity and rain over the weekend to try and end it once and for all.

The fiery tragedy was allegedly sparked by an arsonist, identified as Wayne Allen Huntsman who moved from Santa Cruz to Sacramento.

Huntsman was arrested Wednesday last week and is currently detained in the El Dorado County jail after being charged with felony arson.

The 37-year-old suspect made his first court appearance on Friday and delivered a not-guilty plea at the El Dorado County Superior Court.

His next hearing is scheduled for October 28 and is held on a $10 million bail.
