The story of Jessica Arrendale's heroic final act has become a trending topic over the Internet after she hid her 6-month-old baby from her violent ex-boyfriend before he killed her.

Arrendale, a 33-year-old resident of Atlanta, was shot dead by her former partner and father to her 6-month-old child early on Sunday.

Reports indicate that the suspect, 30-year-old former Marine Antoine Davis, had barged in Arrendale's home in a suburban area in Atlanta where the two argued.

Davis was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident when he turned violent. Arrendale tried to fight him off with a baseball bat but was no match for the former Marine who took the weapon and hit her and the baby she was carrying.

After realizing that she had no chance against Davis, Arrendale sought refuge inside the bathroom located on the building's third floor and hid herself and Cobie.

In a fit of rage, Davis managed to strike the bathroom's door down and shot her in the head.

During her final moments, the heroic mother adjusted her body so as to cover the baby from the enraged man who later turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

"She had pure will. She wanted the baby to live. She was the hero because her last breath was saving the child," her mother, Teresa told Travelers Today.

Afterwards, authorities were called to the scene where they located the baby 13 hours later, safely tucked behind her mother's lifeless body, and immediately rushed her to the hospital.

The baby, who suffered minor hypothermia and a traumatic brain injury, is currently under the care of the Children's Health Care of Atlanta in the Scottish Rite Hospital.

Investigations revealed that the former Marine had been suffering from depression since he returned from Iraq and that the custody bout with Arrendale made matters worse.
