Tanya Tagaq Slam PETA in Her Acceptance Speech

"F*** PETA," says Tanya Tagaq, the Inuit throat singer who won the 2014 Polaris Prize in Toronto as she claimed her prize last Monday, slamming the organization for their animal rights campaign.

On her acceptance speech the previous Monday, Tagaq thanked her record label, Six Shooter Records, and her mentor, Jezze Zubot. In the latter part of her speech, the throat singer suddenly began promoting indigenous hunting and dropped an F-bombed message to the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, otherwise known as PETA.

The Nunavut native is said to have used her victory to convey her advocacy, encouraging hipsters to continue eating and wearing seal.

"People should wear and eat seal as much as possible," says the throat singer on her speech, "...because if you imagine an indigenous culture thriving and surviving on a sustainable resource, wearing seal and eating it, it's delicious and there's lots of them and f*** PETA!"

Tagaq's speech is said to have been brought about by PETA's campaign that promotes the banning of East Coast seal hunting, lobbying on behalf of the European Union ban which makes indigenous hunting an exemption.

The throat singer also posted a controversial photo of a baby next to a dead seal last April in order to participate in a pro-seal campaign which was led by Inuit activists.

In order to clarify the comments she made on her acceptance speech, the musician admitted to having a 'big mouth', saying that she expresses what's on her mind which more often than not, comes out harshly.

Tagaq stated that she intentionally targeted the seal ban being promoted by PETA particularly around Newfoundland and Labrador. The singer said that though she believes in the necessity of animal welfare groups, she said also stated that PETA is taking away the people's food source, citing the level of poverty in said areas.

On a side note, the Inuit representatives have also opposed PETA's advocacy, saying that they have 'stigmatized' the people who hunt seals on the East Coast.

In response to this, PETA also issued a statement, saying that they were surprised about Tagaq's 'ill-informed rant' as they have never campaigned against indigenous hunting. Additionally, the representative of the organization reiterated that their advocacy is only against commercial slaughter.
