China & India's Border Dispute Grows

China-India

Despite the recent announcement of China to invest Billions in India, both countries are seeing growing border tension.

An Indian army, based at a Himalayan plateau earlier this month, built a hut near their station to watch over Chinese soldiers at the border.

The move wasn't taken lightly by Chinese soldiers, who built a road on a part of the border claimed by India, and demanded that the deck be destroyed.

But the Indian army refused to take down the hut, and in turn, destroyed a portion of the road and added troops in the area.

Meanwhile, in a statement released by Ladakh citizen and former Indian envoy, P Stobdan, he said it appeared New Delhi has changed its way of thinking.

P Stobdan, who has knowledge regarding the dispute in the region, added that the hut "has become the bone of contention."

In addition, he said the hut urged the Chinese to draw a line and give an ultimatum: to demolish the hut before they will pull out their troops.

In 2013, India also built a hut in Chumar are, but it was taken down in exchange for China's withdrawal of its troops.

However, this time, the government appears to be standing its ground, according to Stobdan.

During India's election, Prime Minister Narenda Modi promised an increased security policy for the nation, and as evident on the thousands of troops deployed at the countries' border, it proves that Modi made good on his promise.

The last border war between India and China was a short one and happened 52 years ago,

According to India's military officers, the tension in the region of Chumar in Ladack has been growing during the past weeks,.

But despite the palpable tension due to the border dispute, both parties have not exchanged fire.
