Barbra Streisand Makes Music History With New Album

With her latest album topping the Billboard chart, singer Barbra Streisand made music history in the U.S. by becoming the first artist to score number one albums in each of the last six decades.

According to Billboard, Streisand's new release, "Partners," currently topped the Billboard rundown after selling 196,000 copies in its first week.

With her latest hit, the 72-year old singer also became the only female artist to obtain No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart on 10 different albums.

Like Elvis Presley, Streisand now stands fourth place in the all-time list of album chart-topping acts in the U.S., behind Bruce Springsteen, who is in third place with 11 number ones.

Jay Z is second with 13 chart-toppers, while The Beatles leads the hall of fame with 19 best-selling albums.

"Partners," which hit stores last September 16, features a collection of duets with high-profile artists such as Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Michael Buble, John Mayer, and Josh Groban.

This latest album outsold Chris Brown's "X," country star Tim McGraw's "Sundown Heaven Town," veteran country artist George Strait's "The Cowboy Rides Away," and alternative band Train's "Bulletproof Picasso."

Streisand scored her first No. 1 album almost 50 years ago, when "People" topped the chart in October 1964.

Her other albums that also reached the top of the U.S. chart in previous decades include "The Way We Were," "Guilty," "Love is the Answer," "The Broadway Album," and "A Star is Born."

Meanwhile, Streisand thanked her fans for their support.

In a statement she posted on Facebook, the singer said the achievement has given her "an overwhelming feeling of joy."

"Being told that I've had #1 albums in six consecutive decades makes me feel truly blessed and grateful to have such loyal fans," Streisand said.

"I so appreciate all of your energy and support," she added.
