Accordingly, such move by the UN is being considered as a landmark resolution for the LGBT members of the society.

International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) Executive Director Jessica Stern said that "the Human Rights Council has taken a fundamental step forward by reaffirming one of the United Nations' key principles - that everyone is equal in dignity and rights."

"This resolution puts the UN on a trajectory to address the discrimination and violence LGBT persons suffer daily across the world," she added.

The sports sector also applauded UN for the passage of said resolution. Accordingly, this will protect the rights of athletes who are members of LGBT.

Sports personality Andre Banks of All Out said that this is a good step to uphold equal rights among athletes regardless of their gender.

"This is a significant step in ensuring the protection of both citizens and athletes around the world and sends a clear message to future host cities that human rights violations, including those against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, will not be tolerated," he stated.
