U.S. Open finalist Ken Nishikori seized the Malaysian Open title and Britain's No. 1 Andy Murray won against Spain's Tommy Robredo to capture the crown at the Shenzhen Open in China on Sunday.

The top seeded Japanese won his finals matchup against fourth seed Julien Benneteau of France in two straight sets 7(7)-6(4) 6-4 to claim the Malaysian Open crown in Kuala Lumpur.

"It was a really tough start, because he was playing so aggressive," Nishikori said. "I tried to raise my level. It wasn't my best tennis, but it's good to win like this."

The win in Malaysia boosted Nishikori's chances to be part of the year-ending WTA World Tour Finals to be held in London this coming November.

Wolrd No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have already qualified with Nishikori currently in sixth place, he stands a good chance of becoming the first Asian to compete in the event.

For the 32-year-old Frenchman, the tournament is his third straight finals appearance but again came up short of winning his first ATP title.

"Kei was simply too good in the key moments, especially at the end of the first set," Benneteau said. "I'm disappointed with the loss, but very happy with the level of my game."

In China, wild card entry and second seed Murray finally won his first ATP tour title of the year as he came from behind to defeat Robredo 5-7 7(11)-6(9) 6-1.

The Scot faced four match points at the tie-break of the second set where he trailed 2-6 against the Spaniard but was able to escape them all and eventually winning the set 11-9.

The 32-year-old Robredo looked tired after the long set and just couldn't keep up in the deciding set.

"Today was obviously an incredibly tough match, the conditions are so hard to play in," Murray said. "Tommy had a great tournament; he probably deserved to win the match today."

Murray now moves to 10th place in the road to London, surpassing Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov and hopes to further improve in his next tournament at the China Open while Nishikori also have high hopes when he competes at the Japan Open on Monday.
