Will the original Captain Kirk be appearing in the next installment of the new "Star Trek"?

According to the website "Badass Digest", fans may be taken on a nostalgic, retro-trip as it is rumored that William Shatner, the original Captain Kirk, and Leonard Nimoy, the original Dr. Spock, may be reunited on film in the new flick.

If the idea does push through, this will be the first time the two have been onscreen together since they became the icon of sci-fi bromance on television.

When rumors swirled regarding the possibility of Shatner and Nimoy joining the new flick, Shatner was quick to take to Twitter to deny the news, saying that he hasn't been contacted by anyone.

"Let's talk ST. I don't know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it's just rhetoric to cause hype," he wrote.

This is not the first time the idea of Shatner being in the new franchise has been brought up. The 2009 installment of the flick was supposed to feature the actor, but his role had to be cut due to script rewrites.

The new "Star Trek" movie will be directed by Robert Orci instead of JJ Abrams. Abrams is currently busy with another sci-fi flick.

Days after posting the tweet, the actor then announced at Wizard World Nashville that he was contacted by Abrams about being part of the new movie, to which he replied that it would depend on what they wanted to do with the character. He told Abrams that he would be delighted to be part of the movie.

According to Shatner, "So the news is out that they have an idea that they want Leonard and myself...they might want Leonard and myself in it. But I would love to do it. But how do you get me fifty years later into the movie? I mean how do you rationalize it. I know it's science fiction, but even I couldn't come up with an idea. So that's the news on that."
