After a controversial match between Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweights Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) expects Kennedy's appeal to fail.

The two fighters fought in UFC 178: Johnson vs. Cariaso.

Controversy struck when Kennedy rocked Romero with a series of punches just as the second round was ending. Romero was effectively saved by the bell.

As is usual during the intervals between the rounds, fighters go back to their corner and sit on the stool in order for cut men to work on them and to get further instruction from their coaches. The rest period is only one minute long.

However, when the period ended, Romero was still visibly wobbly and was staying on the seat. The UFC cut man applied more Vaseline on his face and the commission inspector told his coach - who doesn't know how to speak English - to wipe it off.

This led to some misunderstandings and an additional 28 seconds of Romero sitting on the stool.

He eventually stood up and unexpectedly came out strong in the third, quickly rushing towards and Kennedy and rocking him.

Romero turned on the ground and pound until referee "Big" John McCarthy stopped the fight.

Kennedy was visibly disappointed and had some heated words backstage with Romero.

He is in the process of appealing the decision, calling for the match to be a "no contest".

However, the NSAC's Executive Director Bob Bennett said that it is unlikely for an appeal being overturned. Chances are slim.

While he did not say that it wouldn't happen, he only commented that they would defer to their legal department.

He also pointed out that he believed Romero would have still won regardless of the additional stool time. He added praise for referee McCarthy for "expediting a situation that unfortunately developed" and resuming the fight.

While UFC President Dana White agreed that it was a delaying tactic of sorts, he said that he couldn't blame the corner as it was a UFC cut man who applied the Vaseline.

Apart from the stool controversy being nicknamed, "Stoolgate," another controversy arises regarding the series of punches Kennedy delivered.

New video evidence shows that Kennedy had his fingers inside Romero's gloves when he delivered the punches and rocked Romero. This new controversy is being called, "Glovegate."
