"It's been a major ordeal in my life. The reason that I left Big Brother 13 -- they asked me to go back on the show, and after six days I left. And this is -- oh my God. It was like insane. Every news station, TMZ and everybody were stalking me for a long time. There were a million rumors of why I left and so on and so forth, but nobody ever knew. Nobody ever found out," Donato admitted.

He revealed that learning he had HIV was one of the most surreal times in his life and, he had learned that he had it while he was competing on the thirteeth season of "Big Brother".

Donato, like all other contestants who join "Big Brother" was given blood and health tests. He recalled that producers talked with him in the house's Diary Room to let him know about the bad news.

The reality star shared that his blood was tested twice for HIV. One came back positive, while the other came back negative. The show's doctor had to do another test to verify the results. The last test revealed that Donato was indeed infected with the virus.

The network told the other cast members that he left the show for personal reasons, without revealing his disease.

Donato shared that he told his mother the news first and, then his girlfriend. He shared that he feared she would freak out, but instead, she said they would face the disease together. She got tested for the virus and the test came back negative.

The star believes he contracted the disease when he had unprotected sex with another woman.

He said he is currently on medication and he will have to be on the drugs for the rest of his life.

Donato shared, "I fully expect to die of something else when I get old, not HIV or AIDS. I knew it wasn't a death sentence like it used to be. But it has still changed me. I do think about others a lot more now. I'm looking forward to going public with this, because maybe, just maybe, this can be the moment where I do something that really helps other people."
