Why Didn't Tom Brady High-five Jimmy Garoppolo?

Tom Brady

After backup rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo stepped in for Tom Brady and made a touchdown pass in his first drive, his New England Patriots teammates gave him high-fives, except for Brady.

The Patriots were served a blowout loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, 41-14.

Brady had not been able to do much the whole game, averaging only 3.8 yards per play and getting only one touchdown in the dying minutes of the third quarter.

Head Coach Bill Belichick was forced to pull Brady out and put in second-round pick Garoppolo who salvaged some pride by completing a touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski on his first drive.

While the large margin was still a painful sight, the teammates knew that it was a good moment for Garoppolo who offered him high-fives.

While Brady also offered high-fives to other players, he overlooked and ignored Garoppolo.

On the bench, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels sat between the two quarterbacks. The Boston Globe reported that they did not seem to speak to each other throughout the rest of the game.

On Brady's radio show, WEEI, via ESPN.com, the 37-year old quarterback addressed the issue.

He said that he really isn't aware of the cameras during game time. He added that he was happy for Garoppolo and his team who fought until the end.

Brady was admittedly disappointed by the outcome of the game and how they have been performing the whole season long, they are still trying to figure out how to improve their offense.

While his response didn't really answer the question, it really may be the case that Brady was too down about the loss that he didn't think to congratulate the backup quarterback at a big moment of his career and life.

Past Greenbay Packers quarterback Brett Favre said once that it was not his job to make current Packers quarterback Brett Rodgers ready to play. The statement was cold, but had some truth to it.

Pundits, critics, and fans alike will be monitoring how the situation is in the Patriots' upcoming game.
