An apartment in Dallas has been thoroughly cleansed five days after the first Ebola patient that arrived in the U.S. from Liberia stayed there.

By dusk on Friday, linens and mattresses as well as a suitcase and clothing used by Thomas Eric Duncan, the first diagnosed Ebola patient in America, were removed from the Dallas home on Friday as part one of three phases of precautionary clean-up.

According to Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, Duncan was moved to an apartment in an undisclosed location in the area given by an anonymous donor together with his four housemates, including his partner, her 13-year-old son, and two 20-something nephews.

The mattresses, sheets and towels seized from their home were sealed inside barrels and locked inside trailers for incineration.

Duncan's arrival aroused panic among residents in the country especially the small community in Dallas with some criticizing the delay in the process considering that Duncan had declared positive of Ebola by health authorities some three days ago.

According to Fox, Duncan was reported to have been the first diagnosed Ebola patient on American soil after he was taken to the hospital several days after he arrived from the Ebola-stricken country of Liberia on September 20.

On September 26, he was confined at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital complaining about fever and abdominal pain.

A blood test that arrived four days after had confirmed that Duncan had contracted Ebola and was advised to stay in the hospital due to his serious, though stable, condition.

In a statement released on Friday, director Zachary Thompson from the Dallas County Health and Human Services had declared the contagion is under control.

"It is contained. The family is being monitored. There is no outbreak. And so therefore everyone should ease their fears and allow public health officials ... to respond to this issue," he stated.
