China Open: Novak Djokovic Surges Past Andy Murray to Meet Tomas Berdych in Finals

World's No. 1 Novak Djokovic surged past Andy Murray in straight sets and sets up a meeting against Tomas Berdych in the finals of the China Open in Beijing on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Serb won his 23rd consecutive match at the tournament after defeating Britain's No. 1 Murray in two sets 6-3 6-4 that lasted an hour and 36 minutes.

The wild card entry from Scotland got a chance to break Djokovic in the second set to level at 4-all but the seven-time Grand Slam champion broke back to the frustration of Murray who slammed his racket onto the hard court of the National Tennis Center.

"I'm glad that I'm back in the form that I would like to be in, especially in these courts where I still haven't lost ever since I played this tournament," Djokovic said. "Hopefully I can finish the year in style, similar as I finished last year."

Djokovic eventually held on to his serve to win the match and sets up a finals encounter against third seeded Berdych.

Berdych, 29, finished off a magnificent run from Slovakian qualifier Marin Klizan who shocked second seeded Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.

The 2011 champion Berdych needed just two sets to win against Klizan 6-4 6-1 in a match that lasted an hour and 21 minutes.

In the road to the ATP World Tour Finals in London, Berdych is head-to-head with Milos Raonic who is just 25 points behind him in eighth place.

Murray is currently in ninth place, surpassing David Ferrer and would want to finish strong in the remaining ATP events to surge past Berdych and Raonic who are both in the finals in Beijing and Tokyo respectively.

Djokovic, Nadal and Roger Federer have already qualified in the eight-man short list while Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Marin Cilic are almost assured of a spot in November.

But it's still a toss-up between Berdych, Raonic, Murray and Ferrer for the remaining two spots in the year-ending event.
