China Open Doubles: Peng Shuai and Andrea Hlavackova Capture First Title

China's Peng Shuai and Andrea Hlavackova defeated defending champions Cara Black and Sania Mirza 6-4 6-4 to capture their first title together at the China Open Women's Doubles Competition in Beijing on Saturday.

The duo of Shuai and Hlavackova first made their appearance at the recent Wuhan Open where they reached the semifinals but lost to Zimbabwean Black who was then partnered with Caroline Garcia of France.

Shuai is the former partner Hsieh Su-weih of Chinese Taipei who separated ways after their U.S. Open stint last month while Hlavackova used to be partners with longtime friend and fellow Czech Lucie Hradecka who won four majors titles.

The tandem of Shuai and Hsieh produced a number of titles including the 2013 Wimbledon Championships and the recent French Open.

Coincidentally, Mirza is also parting ways with her teammate and will be joining Hsieh starting next year.

The 28-year-old Shuai reached the semifinals for the first time in her singles career at the recent U.S. Open when she was forced to retire due to severe cramps caused by heat illness.

Shuai also participated in the singles event where she was defeated in the second round by Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.

In the men's doubles event, half of defending champions Horia Tecau of Romania and new partner Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands marched on to the finals after defeating the duo of Italian Fabio Fognini and Leonardo Mayer of Argentina in straight sets 6-4 6-4.

The Romania-Netherlands tandem will face the pair of veteran Julien Benneteau of France and Canadian Vasek Pospisil who won over qualifiers Johan Brunstrom of Sweden and American Nicholas Monroe in a close three set match 6(5)-7(7) 6-2 10-5.

Pospisil was not as fortunate in the singles event as he lost his match against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the second round.
