Quest for ATP World Tour Finals Continues at Shanghai Rolex Masters

Only five spots remain for the year-ending ATP World Tour Finals to be held in London on November 10 and their quest continues at the Shanghai Rolex Masters in China on Monday.

The top three players who have accumulated enough points and already qualified for the event are World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and nine-time French Open winner Rafael Nadal.

Vying for the last five spots are eight players with Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka just a finals appearance away in clinching the fourth spot.

Recent Malaysian Open and Rakuten Japan Open Tennis winner Kei Nishikori is next on the list and has a big possibility of becoming the first Asian player to make it into the prestigious season-ending event, as long as he doesn't stumble in the early rounds.

U.S. Open titlist Marin Cilic is in sixth place and has just as much chance as the 24-year-old Japanese.

The most important spots are on the seventh and eighth place where Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic hold them respectively.

They are just 25 points apart and over a hundred points against the next three players in Andy Murray, David Ferrer and Grigor Dimitrov.

Murray, who recently won the Shenzhen Open and made the semifinals of the recent China Open surpassed Ferrer who failed to make any points after a disappointing first round loss at the Japan Open.

All players are participating in Shanghai where it is a Masters 1000 event wherein the winner will be awarded 1,000 points and 600 points for being a finalist.

With that much points alone, it will make a significant impact in the outcome of the list and even Wawrinka and Nishikori can still end up not making the short list.

And with a final ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event scheduled in Paris late October, the players are all inspired to become part of the US$ 6 million tournament at the O2 Arena in London.
