World's First Hydroelectric Tidal House Designed

The Hydroelectric Tidal House concept by Margot Karosevic

Architect Margot Karosevic envisions building a house on the sea that uses waves for power and energy.

It's called the Hydroelectric Tidal House. As its name suggests, the tidal house will use hydroelectricity for power. Hydroelectricity was chosen due to the house's ability to harness the consistent and powerful motion of the waves.

Karosevic said the house on the sea will be separated into two shells: one outer and one inner.

The outer shell will be made of concrete. This will form the firm base of the house, keeping it stable. Also included in this outer shell will be solar cells that will generate some energy for living sections of the house.

The inner shell, on the other hand, will be made of aluminum. This shell is designed so it can move with the tide.

This particular section is situated within the external structure of the house, with the tides rushing through it.

Karosevic has included a two-part turbine that allows the house to harness the constant motion of the waves, compressing air and then creating electrical currents.

A second part of the turbine uses magnets that move along a copper wire, thereby also generating electrical energy.

The innovative architect said she got the idea for the house when designers approached her to build a surfer's beach house. She said she thought about how surfers move through the waves.

It's also not a coincidence that waves have also provided her with a renewable source of energy since she's an advocate and supporter of renewable energy.

Earlier last year, she also designed a Hydroelectric Waterfall Prison that also acts as a sustainable, hydroelectric power station.
