Super Typhoon Vongfong, hailed as the most powerful typhoon in 2014, is on its way to Japan carrying a maximum sustained winds of 190 miles per hour.

According to reports, Vongfong is set on a course similar to that of Typhoon Phanfone, setting a possible landfall in Japan, and is expected to pack up more winds over the next 24 hours.

According to U.S Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Vongfong's gustiness is measured to reach 190 mph, or 306 kilometers per hour.

Japanese meteorological officials are closely monitoring the typhoon over as it continues to head to the Land of the Rising Sun with the strongest winds of more than 150 miles per hour or 250 kilometers per hour.

Satellite images from the Japan Meteorological Agency indicate that the enormous storm's central pressure plummeted to 905 millibars.

Because of this, the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang blog had named Vongfong as this year's strongest typhoon since storms with higher sea level pressure difference have stronger winds.

According to weather forecasters, Vongfong would likely remain as the strong Category 5 storm until Wednesday and might even strengthen further.

At the moment, Vongfong is already within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) where it garnered the name "Ompong" after bringing severe floods to the Mariana Islands on Sunday.

Waves along the Western Pacific had reached at least 50 feet in height.

As of the most recent reports from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), Vongfong is currently at 571 nautical miles south-southeast of Okinawa, Japan after pursuing its northwestward track for the past six hours.

So far, Vongfong is the fifth super typhoon to hit the Pacific in 2014 and had garnered the title of being a super typhoon after it reached maximum sustained winds of at least 150 miles per hour, or 241 kilometers per hour.
