The NBA just got a hot new guard in a one-day contract when the Utah Jazz signed five-year-old JP Gibson.

Gibson was signed to a one-day contract for a Jazz scrimmage last Monday night.

He was put in late in the third quarter, wearing his jersey that sported the number 1.

With less than a minute to go, the ball was passed inbound to Gibson. He dribbled down the lane, getting past several defenders, and finished with a monstrous slam dunk with the assistance of center Rudy Gobert.

At only five years old, Gibson got to fulfill his dream of being part of an NBA team.

Photographer Jon Diaz has a project called "Anything can be." This project creates storybooks for cancer-stricken children, while also helping them realize their dreams and wishes.

Gibson was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells that is characterized by the overproduction of immature white blood cells known as lymphoblasts.

With the help of Diaz's project, Gibson was able to sign a contract with Jazz President Randy Rigby right before he joined the team with his own jersey for the annual preseason scrimmage at EnergySolutions Arena.

At the contract signing, he was joined by his parents, Josh and Megan, and his two-year old sister Elsie.

In a statement released by the Jazz, Megan spoke about her son's love for sports. While he loves most sports, Megan said that her son liked basketball the best.

When JP was young, he started watching basketball games with his father. Ever since then, he insisted on practicing his shooting for one hour every day, before he went to sleep.

"He knows he has to be 6 before he can play Junior Jazz," Megan said, "and he reminds us all the time that he can't wait until he's 6."
